Bristol Sereno
"Reno"

Reno, like so many other ponies came to Kelviden farm for training.  I had thought about buying him in 2000, but Martha MacDonald, beat me to it.  She sent him to me in April of 2001, and by October I owned him.  The cute part of the story is that my students all chipped in and bought him for me as a wedding present.

Reno isn't the typiest Welsh Pony you'll ever see.  But I'll bet he's one of the most athletic.  I remember the first time I saw him in person, being awe struck by the way he floated as he trotted across the ground.  His front feet barely touched the ground.

Like so many other Kelviden Farm ponies, Reno is a bit on the mellow side.  Most people don't even believe he is a stallion. But he loves to jump and he just keeps getting better and better.  I think 2003 may be his year!  If all goes well, you'll have heard of Bristol Sereno by the end of the year.

I bred five mares to Reno last summer and we're expecting four foals this spring.  I always wanted to breed a purebred large pony that was athletic enough to compete with the crossbreds.  I think I may just have that on the way.  I'll let you know in a few years.

I go back and forth on what to do with Reno.  He won't ever win the stallion class, but he'll be hard to beat under saddle.  What I do know, is that he is the kind of Pony that would have made Mollie Butler smile.  He's got substance and he's got staying power.  He's the kind of pony that could plow the fields in the morning and win in the show ring in the afternoon.  To me that's what a Welsh Pony is supposed to be!

Update: December 2004:  Well Reno was gelded in August.  he went to Wellington Florida for three months and he has found a new home in Austin TX.  I know Reno will end up being one of the greatest large pony hunters that ever was!  And I will forever be proud that I had just a little something to do with his success!
